Paul Anka – a music legend in his own right

The veteran artist will perform in Bucharest for the first time tomorrow. Paul Anka has gone on to become one of the most prolific, successful songwriters in history. With over 45 years in show business, he celebrates this with a new 4 CD Box Set of his hits spanning over four decades for his millions of fans around the world.

His musical compositions are internationally known and have been recorded by the greatest names in the entertainment industry. With over 124 albums to his credit, Mr. Anka has been named the 21st most successful artist in Billboard’s history (Billboard statistic), putting him alongside music greats Elvis Presley and the Beatles. In 2005, the artist released an album featuring songs originally recorded by some of rock’n roll’s greatest names, entitled “Rock Swings”. Although at the time many people doubted it would be a success, this is easily among Anka’s best albums.

As a musician Anka exudes an old world charm. His is a career in which he transformed himself from being a ‘50s teen idol into a superb vocal musician recognized around the world, and one of most successful pop songwriters in history.

Anka has sold close to 15 million albums worldwide. Among his Billboard chart stats in the U.S. are three #1 songs, “Diana,” “Lonely Boy,” and “You’re Having My Baby,” as well as 22 Top 20 hits. Anka also has a staggering 900 songs to his credit—130 recorded by other artists including Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Robbie Williams. At, 67 Anka shows no sign of slowing down. He works not for fun, not to eat, but because one must. “I perform because I still need to,” he says. “It’s one of those things that’s in your blood. Because, in the beginning, people didn’t come to see me because I was a performer. They came to see me because I had a hit song. Now they come because they know I’ll give them a performance like no one else.”

Concert in Bucharest will kick off at Palace Hall at 7 pm on June 1st. Tickets can still be found at the Palace Hall box-office.
