Basescu urges Parliament to speed up adoption of Criminal and Civil Procedure Codes

President Traian Basescu on Tuesday sent a letter to speakers of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies, in which he urges the Legislative to adopt the Criminal Procedure Code and the Civil Procedure Code until the end of the current Parliament session. “As you know, Romania is still under the Mechanism of Cooperation and Verification for the justice sector and the fight against corruption. An important step in the process of monitoring justice reforms is the Report the European Commission will pass this summer. A positive evaluation in this document will be possible if the Parliament of Romania passes the Criminal Procedure Code and the Civil Procedure Code as soon as possible. To this view, I reiterate the letter I sent you in April this year and I’m asking you to adopt the two aforementioned Codes until the end of this Parliament session,” reads the letter sent by President Basescu to Mircea Geoana and Roberta Anastase.
