“Days and Nights of Literature” Festival, on its ninth edition

The ninth edition of the “Days and Nights of Literature” International Festival, a prestigious event organized by the Romanian Writers’ Union (USR), will take place, between June 5 and 9, in Neptun and Mangalia. The event brings together approximately seventy participants – writers, translators, editors, critics and literary journalists – from Romania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Great Britain, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Moldova, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and Hungary.


The guests include important names in contemporary literature: from Nicolae Manolescu, Matei Visniesc, Krzysztof Czyzewsky, to Madeleine Thien, Mohamed Salmawy, Alev Adil, Naim Arady and Donny O’Rourke.


In premiere, the festival will start, on Sunday, at the Ambasador Complex in Neptun, with the traditional award ceremony: the Ovidius Grand Trophy (EUR10,000) granted, to a famous literary personality, by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (MPCN) and the Festival’s Prize, awarded to a young writer (EUR 5,000) by Mangalia City Hall. So far, the Ovidius Grand Trophy has been granted to writers Jorge Semprun, Antono Lobo Antunes, Amos Oz, Mario Vargas Llosa, Evgheni Evtushenko, Orhan Pamuk and Peter Esterhazy.
