Adrian Ionescu, manager within the National Highways and National Roads Company (CNADNR), is in favour of setting up an electronic system for the payment of the road tax. He claims that no one pays the road tax and, thus, it is very difficult to collect the money, HotNews informs. “We spend, annually, approximately RON 300 M on road maintenance, although we would need 5 times this amount to cover our needs,” Ionescu explained. When asked why the same national road is being repaired, every year, and what the company’s strategy for the following years is, the CNADNR official avoided giving an answer, mentioning, however, that the road between Pitesti and Rm Valcea may, for instance, be repaired by different firms at different times, while insisting that “We can account for every penny we’ve spent”. CNADNR will initiate, in the following days, negotiations to revise the building contracts which were artificially delayed. Ionescu said that lately they’ve witnessed the arising of firms specialized in coming up with justifications for delayed works on roads and highways, which send tonnes of papers so as to obtain higher prices and to extend terms.
