EP president in Bucharest

European Parliament president Jerzy Buzek is on a two-day visit in Bucharest. He will meet Romanian President Traian Basescu, Senate Speaker Mircea Geoana, Speaker of the Lower Chamber Roberta Anastase, Premier Emil Boc, Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi and the presidents of the Lower Chamber’s and Senate’s permanent committees.

Buzek will also give a speech during the two chambers’ joint plenary session and will take part in a conference titled ‘The effects of the economic-financial crisis. Efficiency and solidarity.’

Buzek was scheduled to visit Bucharest on April 11-12 but the visit was canceled after the airplane crash in Smolensk which killed Poland’s president and 95 other top officials. Buzek was elected president of the European Parliament in July 2009, becoming the first Eastern European to hold that office.
