Conference on EU Danube strategy organized at Constanta

The conference closing the process of public consultation on the EU Strategy in the Danube Region started, yesterday, in Constanta.

Organized by the European Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, running from Wednesday to Friday, in Constanta and Tulcea, the Conference brings to Romania high representatives of the states in the Danube region and of the European Commission, as well as MEPs.

Participants in the event include, among others, the European Regional Policy Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, the Romanian Foreign Minister, Teodor Baconschi, the Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea, and the Minister of Environment and Forests, Laszlo Borbely.

The conference marks the end of the series of events meant to encourage public consultation on the EU Strategy in the Danube Region and will host debates on the priorities and targets to be included in the Action Plan drafted by the European Commission, on the basis of national contributions.

In this context, three work groups will be organized, for debates on the three priority domains of the Strategy – connectivity, environment protection and socio-economic development. Participants in the conference will present ideas for national interest or regional cooperation projects, which may be pursued under the aegis of the Danube Strategy or may contribute to the sustainable development of the region.
