A paratrooper died yesterday during a training exercise at the Boboc army base in Buzau County after his parachute failed to open, Mediafax informs. According to the Ministry of Defence, warrant officer Petre Onofre (41) was taking part in a training exercise organized by the Land Forces Staff’s School for Paratroopers. The Ministry of Defence points out that the soldier was pronounced dead by a medical team that urgently sought to resuscitate him. The Land Forces Staff has appointed a commission that will investigate the accident. Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea, Head of the General Staff Admiral Gheorghe Marin and the soldier’s comrades in arms have expressed their profound regrets and their heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved family.
