Razvan Lucescu: I’ll leave if we don’t qualify for EURO 2012

National football team head coach Razvan Lucescu has announced that he will resign if Romania fails to qualify for the EURO 2012 tournament. “I was appointed head coach of the national football team last year in order to qualify for the European Championships. I will give my best in order to secure that qualification. This passion of mine has helped me overcome difficult moments and I’ve always fulfilled my goals. If I fail I will leave,” Lucescu stated for GSP TV.

Lucescu also talked about the friendly games that Romania played in early June, stating that his players did well against Ukraine, with the referee’s mistakes being the ones that tilted the balance against Romania in that game. The head coach did not forget the Romanian journalists that criticised him after those games, accusing them of lacking professionalism. “It wasn’t the end of the world for me but what happened in Romania was insane. It was a friendly after all. This can no longer be called a press; they take statements out of context, they spin words! It’s a cheap press, this is unbelievable,” Lucescu stated.

Lucescu and the national team were criticised after losing the friendly games against Ukraine and Macedonia and winning against Honduras.
