Unionists move protest to Cotroceni, set to file ILO complaint against state

The five trade union confederations will organise, on June 25, after the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the austerity measures, a picket deploying 3,000 people at Cotroceni Palace, to ask the president to send the laws back to Parliament, and will file a complaint against the state at the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

“Cartel Alfa” confederation leader Bogdan Hossu said on Thursday afternoon, following a meeting with representatives of the five trade union confederations, that they set another plan of action against the austerity measures decided by the government, which includes a picket at Cotroceni Palace, filing a complaint against the state at ILO and obtaining a special resolution for Romanian employees and pensioners from the International Trade Unions’ Confederation.

The “Cartel Alfa” leader admitted that trade unionists doubt the June 25 protest will be effective, but that they will resort to it not to be accused they had failed to resort to the last means left of preventing wage and pension cuts.
