Highest redundancy rate in Hunedoara and Gorj

The highest number of redundancies in the past two months was reported in counties Hunedoara (1,823 people) and Gorj (679). Here, the unemployment rate is of 10.4 per cent, respectively, of 11.2 per cent, Realitatea.net informs. The heaviest number of redundancies in both counties were operated by the National Coal Company (1,300 people) and the Turceni (250) and Rovinari Power Complexes (200).


Olt County, where the unemployment rate is slightly above the national average (8.6 per cent), is featured also in the ranking of collective sackings on the past two months, with a total of 455 people, sacked mainly by the Romvag Caracal freight cars manufacturer. In the county with the highest unemployment rate in Romania, Vaslui (14.1 per cent), there have been no collective sackings in the past two months. The second county in the unemployment ranking – Mehedinti (12.9 pc) – ranks 5th in the redundancies wave, with 447 people sacked, whereas the third, Teleorman (12.3 pc), saw 148 people made redundant. Bucharest reported a total of 2,530 people sacked in the past two months, but only 520 of these are actually residing in the Capital. The rest were employed by companies based in Bucharest, but which operated sackings in other counties, according to the National Employment Agency (ANOFM). Almost 10,000 people were sacked collectively in April and May 2010, the two months in which unemployment first dropped in Romania in the past one and a half year. Companies estimated that they would let go 14,100 employees, but actually sacked only 9,490 people. Fields in which redundancies peak at present are mining, energy, the production of means of transport, guard and security, metallic building and the textile industry.
