STS strikes RON 5.5 M deal with journalist’s former company

The Special Telecommunications Service (STS) has concluded an agreement worth approximately RON 5.5 M net of VAT with Centrul pentru Servicii de Radiocomunicatii SRL (CSR), the scope being the expansion of TETRA telecom network coverage, according to an award notice posted to the Electronic Public Procurements System (SEAP) yesterday. The winning company was hared between Elvira Gheorghiu and Doina Chireac, with the latter being the mother of journalist Bogdan Chireac. ‘Evenimentul zilei’ in 2007 was indicating that shareholder Chireac had ceded his shares to his mother. The same newspaper, on the same year, was suggesting that STS and SCR had concluded agreements amounting to a rough total of EUR 24 M up to that point. But in a statement to Agerpres yesterday, Chireac denied having any connection with CSR, saying that he sold his shares in the company to a Swiss investor, in 2008. Following the press reports, Chireac resigned as deputy editor-in-chief from ‘Gandul’ daily.
