ONB season ends with “Turandot”

The Bucharest National Opera (ONB) ends its 2009-2010 season with a surprise for all lyrical theatre-lovers: the premiere of the opera “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini. On June 26, respectively, June 27, at 18:30, the public is invited to listen to Puccini’s last work in an extraordinary concert-performance, whose cast includes some of the most gifted Romanian lyrical artists, alongside special guests: Silvia Sorina Munteanu/ Mariana Zvetkova (Turandot), Efe Kislali/ Kiss B. Atilla (Calàf), Irina Iordachescu/ Crina Zancu (Liù), Florin Diaconescu (Altoum), Marius Bolos/ Horia Sandu (Timur), Florin Simionca (Ping), Cristian Mogosan (Pang), Valentin Racoveanu (Pong), Ion Dimieru (The Mandarin). The “Turandot” production beautifully merges the qualities of a concert with the theatrical atmosphere which recaptures the magic of Puccini’s opera, under the baton of the young and talented conductor Tiberiu Soare. The performance is directed by Stefan Negrau, while the choreography bears the signature of Viorica Petrovici. The ONB artists and guests will bring to life the famous legend of the princess Turandot, a ruthless princess who punishes her suitors by death, but who will eventually find true love, is stated in the ONB release. Forces deployed in the performance include the ONB orchestra and choir, coordinated by the maestro Stelian Olariu, and the children’s choir, conducted by maestro Vasile Corjos. The musical preparation for the concert-performance was ensured by Luminita Berariu, Madalina Florescu, Liana Mares, Ioana Maxim, Mihaela Valcea and Sabin Orbulescu. By this concert-performance, the Bucharest National Opera closes a session rich in events, promising to offer us new high-quality shows in the autumn.
