Ship with Romanian sailors aboard, intercepted for transporting weapons

A ship which also had Romanian sailors aboard was intercepted, on Friday, by Indian authorities and will be transferred to Calcutta for investigations, after it emerged that it was carrying weapons and was heading to the Karachi harbour in Pakistan, IANS informs, quoted by the Thaindian.com website. The Ministries of Defence, Foreign and Internal Affairs were notified of the existence of the ship, which was carrying rocket launchers, smoke bombs and anti-aircraft weapons, the Coast Guard chief announced. The Aegean Glory ship was freighted in the Monrovia harbour, in Liberia, according to the documents presented by the captain to the security personnel. The ship anchored in the Cox Bazar harbour in Chittagong, Bangladesh, to be freighted with cars before reaching India. The ship’s next destination was Karachi. The ship’s captain is of Greek origin, whereas the other 19 crew members come from Romania, Ukraine and Greece, according to the officials.
