Turkey counts on Romania’s support for EU accession

Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi met yesterday Egemen Bagis, Minister of European Affairs and Turkey’s chief negotiator with the EU. According to a release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), both parties declared their commitment to the continuation of political dialogue at the highest level in 2010, including by a visit which President Traian Basescu is to undertake in Turkey, this autumn. The two officials addressed bilateral economic cooperation, focusing on the energy sector, and regional collaboration, as well as the need to find new opportunities, for Romanian and Turkish investors. In this context, they discussed ways of simplifying the visa regime for Turkish entrepreneurs. The Turkish official thanked Romania “for its vocal and constant support of Turkey’s accession to the EU,” voicing his hope that Bucharest would continue to support Ankara on its way to European integration.
