NGO: Antonescu, Voicu, Diaconescu, Negoita and Duvaz – in the top of slacker MPs

Senators Crin Antonescu, Catalin Voicu, Ioan Ghise, Dan Voiculescu and Cristian Diaconescu, along with Deputies Doru Frunzulica, Robert Negoita, Bogdan Niculescu-Duvaz and Nicolae Banicioiu lead the top of Parliament members that accumulated most absences in electronic voting procedures, reveals a report of the Institute for Public Policies (IPP).

The deputy director of IPP, Adrian Moraru proposed that the Parliament, too, enforces the rule about an elect losing his mandate if he misses a number of sessions, without a reason. “We believe they should take into consideration two measures. The first has been already discussed: it is a rule that exists in the French Parliament, about losing the mandate for a very bad attendance record. (…) Let me give you an example from a Romanian law – the Law of Local Public Administration – which rules that a counselor loses his mandate for missing three sessions in a row, without motive. I don’t understand why we cannot transfer this system to parliamentarians,” Moraru said.

Speaking about attendance to the Chamber of Deputies session, the deputy director of IPP said four PDL deputies have an attendance record of 100 pc. He added that IPP decided to reward the legislators who do their job and attend the proceedings of the Parliament with diplomas that will acknowledge their performance related to attendance. To this regard, IPP officials already awarded a diploma to PDL Deputy Cristian Petrescu, who actually attended the launching event of the IPP report.
