Dumitru Costin reinstated president of BNS

Dumitru Costin, president of the National Council of the National Union Bloc (BNS), has received union members’ vote of confidence, HotNews informs. Costin had resigned last month, being of the opinion that the union movement against the austerity measures turned out to be a failure. Thus, on July 9 Dumitru Costin resumed his term in office, a term that will last until the autumn of 2011 when the Confederation’s Congress is scheduled. The BNS program consists of several main goals, including strengthening the organization, recruiting new members, improving the ties between the confederation, union federations and County branches, as well as moving towards a system of direct communication with union members. Other goals consist of diversifying the services that the confederation offers to its members as well as changing the way in which protests are organized. Dumitru Costin announced his resignation on June 16, arguing that the June 15 protests outside the Palace of Parliament were a failure and austerity measures could not be avoided.
