The game is scheduled today in Chisinau. Head coach Ioan Andone claims a defeat is out of question.
Dinamo Bucharest arrived in Chisinau yesterday, being welcomed by a group of 30 Moldovan fans. The Moldovan fans displayed two banners reading “FC Dinamo in our DNA” and “Bucharest – Chisinau, Dinamo always in our soul.” Dinamo started its Europa League qualifiers campaign yesterday afternoon when head coach Ioan Andone and his team left for Chisinau. Dinamo is the favorite of the second preliminary round fixture against Olimpia Balti. A defeat is out of the question for Dinamo in Basarabia despite the fact that Olimpia’s players will undoubtedly try to make history for their club. Dinamo is expecting support from Romanian fans living in Moldova, more so since the game is an important event for Moldovan football. Ioan Andone admitted that he does not know much about the opponents but expressed his belief that his players will give their best and there will be no surprise result. “We are starting the season and I hope the players will not be nervous since they are professional and I hope they are aware Romania’s image in Europe is at stake here. If you’ve set your sights high you cannot go to Chisinau without giving your best. I have a lot of data on them especially since they speak Romanian there and I have a lot of friends in that area. A lot can happen in football but we shouldn’t take the game lightly. Considering this is my first game at the helm of Dinamo I hope we’ll have a good start. I believe I have motivated them because this is an international game and I’ve shown them the game that Balti played in Lankaran against a team that had a Brazilian earning EUR 600,000. Olimpia Balti is a team that plays football; it’s not a physical team. They don’t play randomly, they’re trying to build, and they don’t use high balls. It would be tragic for us not to qualify. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve heard of Olimpia Balti although I’ve been involved in football for so many years,” Andone stated before leaving for Chisinau.
The head coach admitted his team is not fully prepared and has problems: “We are not fully prepared because we’ve made a lot of changes; there still are uncertainties about the extended lineup and changes will be made next week too.”
Dinamo will play against Olimpia Balti today in a game counting for the second preliminary round of the Europa League. The game will be played in Chisinau and will not be televised. The return leg is scheduled on July 22.
