Romanian caught at Prague airport with 35 heroine capsules in stomach

Customs authorities at the Ruzyne Airport in Prague on Sunday detained a Romanian national who was carrying 35 capsules of heroine in his stomach, Czech Customs spokeswoman Zuzana Hruba told Mediafax – Czech Republic on Tuesday.

“A 24-year-old Romanian citizen flying from Istanbul was behaving suspiciously so the customs authorities decided he should be checked,” she said. The first check came back positive and the x-ray scans performed later on confirmed that he had 35 capsules of heroine in his stomach. Each capsule is 4 cm long and contains approximately 10 grams of heroine. The approximate value of the seizure is EUR 24,000, police say.

Hruba added that hiding drugs in one’s stomach is exceptionally risky as the body may be exposed to a large dose of drug should any of the capsules break.
