CSU Aurel Vlaicu Arad’s player Alexandru Gradinaru, 19, died in an Oradea clinic early Thursday morning because of health complications that appeared following an injury he suffered four months ago. Gradinaru suffered a spinal lesion during a March 31 game against CSM Stiinta Baia Mare. In the last four months he had been hospitalised within several Romanian clinics. Family members, rugby players and regular people had donated sums of money in the hope of helping the rugby player’s parents to pay for a costly surgery abroad. “Alex’s death is causing immense pain. We stand alongside the bereaved family. We were trying to bring Alex to a hospital in Bucharest but unfortunately that’s no longer necessary. The doctors were unable to help him,” Alin Petrache, president of the Romanian Rugby Federation, stated.
