Top diplomat Aurescu attends OSCE informal meet

Foreign Ministry’s Secretary of State in charge of strategic affairs Bogdan Aurescu today and tomorrow will attend an informal ministerial meeting of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), organised in Alma Ata. The meeting is held at the initiative of OSCE’s current presidency, Kazakhstan, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, carried by Agerpres news agency. The meeting will focus on issues of current concern on OSCE’s agenda, such as the Corfu Process, European security and the possibility of organising an OSCE summit this year. The Corfu Process was launched last year by OSCE, and its main purpose is that of tackling European security challenges with concrete steps. Romania is one of the ten states that were delegated too coordinate debates within the process and has already presented two initiatives during the talks – one regarding ways of improving OSCE’s response to crisis situations and post-conflict rehabilitation and one regarding implementation of Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights recommendations, the press release says. Romania has also co-sponsored several initiatives, referring to the organisation of special sessions on conflicts in the OSCE area, debates on climate change security implications, development of efficient fast alert and analysis tools, in order to increase OSCE’s capacity to answer new economic crises.
