Air show with tens of aircraft at Otopeni

The Minister of Transport, Radu Berceanu, opened the Otopeni Air Show 2010 on Saturday flying a Cessna plane and leading an airplane formation that took off from Strejnic. Over 10,000 viewers watched the air demonstrations by the best military and aerobatic pilots. The Otopeni Air Show 2010 brought together over 60 civil, sport and military aircraft. A special guest from Lithuania, Jurgis Kairys, two times world champion and one of the best aerobatic pilots in the world in the unlimited category, also participated. Otopeni Air Show 2010 also celebrated the centenary of two essential moments in the history of Romanian aviation: the first flight of a Romanian aviator on a plane of Romanian design on a Romanian airdrome – Aurel Vlaicu, at Cotroceni, on June 17, 1910 and the first flight of a jet propelled airplane in the world – Henri Coanda, at Issy les Moulineaux, on December 16, 1910.
