Dinamo could meet Hajduk Split in Europa League

If it wins its fixture against Moldova’s Olimpia Balti (which will probably happen since Dinamo won the first leg, score 2-0) Dinamo Bucharest will play against Croatia’s Hajduk Split in round 3 of the Europa League qualifiers, in line with the draws that took place last week in Nyon (Switzerland). The first leg of that game is scheduled on July 29, with the return leg scheduled on August 5. The return leg against Olimpia is scheduled on July 22. “It was a good game, we deserved to win,” Andone stated immediately after the game. “The first half was balanced, we were lucky to score. The second half was better, but unfortunately Marius Niculae and Olimpia’s fullback Alexandru Cheltuiala were sent off.” This was Andone’s first game after taking over Dinamo. FC Timisoara and Unirea Urziceni are the other two Romanian clubs taking part in the Europa League qualifiers. In round 3 FC Timisoara will play against the winner of the game that pits Finland’s Myllykosken Pallo-47 Anjalankoski against Andorra’s UE Sant Julia. Unirea Urziceni will play against Russia’s Zenit St. Petersburg.

Financial problems could nevertheless endanger FC Timisoara’s Europa League campaign. Fiscal authorities blocked the club’s bank accounts last week because of its failure to pay the approximately EUR 1 M it owes to the state. Any sums entering the club’s bank accounts will be redirected to the Finance Ministry’s accounts until the debt is redeemed, Mircea Simeria, representative of the Timis County’s Public Finance Office, stated on Friday.

Unirea and FC Timisoara won their most recent friendlies. Unirea Urziceni defeated Scotland’s Dundee United, score 1-0 (1-0 at half time), while FC Timisoara defeated Hungary’s Ferencvaros Budapest, score 2-1.
