Romanian playwright in London’s Camden Fringe selection

The play “Oase pentru Otto”, by Lia Bugnar, will be presented in the Camden Fringe Festival in London, in a new production directed by Cristian Hogas during his residence at the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in the British capital, the institute informs.

Lia Bugnar’s play, which will be presented under the title “Bones for Prince”, explores the concerns and prejudices of two women meeting in extreme circumstances. One is a prostitute and walks the streets to feed her family, while the other, an opera singer, desperately needs 500 pounds to go to New Zealand and play the title lead in “La Traviata”. The play was first staged by Lia Bugnar at the Green Hours’ Monday Theatre in Bucharest, in 2003, and won the Fringe Project award in the 2004 Dublin Fringe Festival. Cristian Hogas, a resident at ICR London in the 2010 Attic Arts program, directed the play, casting Andreea Pacuraru and the British actress Alice Fernback as the two women.
