US Embassy: In spite of F 16 deal, country is a good ally

Though Romania has officially failed to meet the second deadline convened with Washington in paying the first instalment in the F-16 deal established in March, the US Embassy is certain this will not affect the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Asked by ‘Gandul’ if Romania has anything to fear on not observing the deadline, the US Embassy has in exclusivity responded that “Romania will remain a close ally of the US, no matter what the fate of the contract will be.” Asked if another deadline could be extended over the date of August 3, however the embassy response came with diplomacy: “It is an aspect that represents a responsibility for both the Government of Romania and the Ministry of Defence.” Overall the message was that Romania, a country which is already an important strategic partner for the US should not fear any retaliation in case local officials denounce the contract.
