Ford to launch new model at Craiova works

Ford has invested EUR 200 M in Craiova works and will launch a new model, the second one, soon, Ford Europe president John Flemming announced on Wednesday. The new model will be a small car, while in 2012 the works will start producing engines as well.

Ford’s investment in Craiova was analysed yesterday by Prime Minister Emil Boc and the company’s leadership, a government release remitted to the editorial office informs. The premier offered assurances that the government will continue to back the business environment and to stimulate Romanian and foreign investors in order for them to maintain and expand their businesses in our country. “We support foreign and national investments during this crisis period because our common goal is to maintain and create jobs,” the prime minister underlined. Ford’s John Fleming, recently promoted head of global manufacturing and labour affairs, confirmed Ford Motor Company’s commitment towards Romania and towards its plant in Craiova. “Ford maintains its commitment to invest over EUR 675 M in its project in Craiova. At the same time, job creation will start in Craiova in the first half of next year. Our plan is for the plant in Craiova to go from the 3,500 employees it has now to 7,000 employees in the following years,” Fleming pointed out.
