Udrea: If he was in Boc’s place, Basescu would have resigned

Minister of Tourism and Development Elena Udrea thinks PM Emil Boc should have taken a more decisive position in relation to some of his ministers. “This is what the PM should have done, he should have taken measures in a more decisive manner. He should have been more firm with the ministers in his Cabinet. Because there have been delays in the implementation of some measures, some ministers had a poor communication and the activity of some of the ministries showed lack of coordination with the road-map set by the prime minister,” Udrea says in an interview with ‘Revista 22’ taken over by Realitatea.net.
More or less bluntly, she suggested that President Traian Basescu would have chosen the government’s resignation over the reshuffle.
“When the arguments in favour of the government’s resignation were presented in the party, some of my colleagues who have been with the party longer than I have said that, as they know the president, he would have chosen the variant of resigning. I don’t want to take a guess, I have told you what the opinion of people who know him very well are. They think that, if he was president of the party, this is the decision that Traian Basescu would have made. This is exactly what they said”, Udrea argued. She also says Traian Basescu could have imposed his way: “There were two options. I don’t know what the president’s favourite one was. Eventually, one of the two solutions was adopted – I say eventually because first there was a small reshuffle which was then followed by the deep reshuffle that happened in the end. If the president had wanted the other option, he would have probably imposed it. The president has enough credibility and authority in PDL and continues to be the role-model, the landmark of the party, which makes him capable of imposing a solution he believes in and one that he can support by arguments.”
Udrea’s statements come after several Democrat-Liberal leaders urged PM Emil Boc to resign together with the entire cabinet at a Leading College meeting last week. The list was quite long, including top party members sucg as Sever Voinescu, Raluca Turcan, Sulfina Barbu.
