The death toll of the tragedy that hit the Giulesti Maternity Hospital in Bucharest a month ago reaches six, after another infant died at the Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital yesterday. Hospital Director Dan Enescu said when the baby had arrived from Giulesti, he had severe lung and kidney issues, the lesions being too serious to resolve. The hospital official also reminded of the fact that the baby had presented with burns covering 40 to 50 per cent of his body, with burned airways and with carbon monoxide intoxication. The other five babies injured in the fire are stable, with ‘a rather good’ evolution also due to an increase in body weight, the doctor also said. A month ago, a short started file in the premature intensive care ward of the Giulesti Maternity Hospital killing five newborns and badly injuring six. The nurse in charge of the ward has been remanded in custody and other hospital workers have been indicted.
