Football: Sorin Cartu to coach CFR Cluj

Sorin Cartu was officially presented as the new head coach of title holder CFR Cluj on Monday. Cartu (54) will replace Andrea Mandorlini and will be at the helm of the team during its Champions League clash against FC Basel on Wednesday. Mircea Irimescu and Silviu Lung will be his assistant coaches. Andrea Mandorlini took over CFR Cluj in November 2009 and went on to win the title, the Romanian Cup and the Supercup. “It will be a difficult mission for me. I’m trying to attain all goals, namely to win the title and the Cup and to have a good performance in the Champions League,” Cartu said. Club President Iuliu Muresan hopes Sorin Cartu will be able to recover the points Mandorlini lost at the start of this season.
