President Basescu to address Parliament on September 21

The president Traian Basescu is to address the Parliament on September 21, at 15:00, the joint Standing Bureaus of the Senate and the Chamber decided, yesterday. The head of state sent, at the beginning of last week, a letter to the Speakers of the two Chambers, informing them he wished to address the Parliament on current internal affairs on September 21. The latest meeting of the joint Chambers in which the president Basescu addressed the Legislative took place on September 15, 2009, at the end of the head of state’s first term in office. He then delivered a speech reporting on his activity in office.

Basescu’s address came in the wake of the Government’s taking responsibility on the education law, the unified public sector wages law and the restructuring of a number of institutions and authorities. Shortly afterwards, the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) Cabinet at the time was brought down after the no-confidence vote initiated by the Social-Democrat Party (PSD) passed through Parliament.
