Over 18,000 foreigners to reach Constanta on cruise ships in 2010

The number of foreign tourists travelling on cruise ships that will dock in Constanta harbour this year will surpass 18,000 persons, up by 20 per cent compared to last year, Teodor Patrichi, the person responsible for coordinating Constanta harbour’s passenger terminal, stated for Agerpres. The cruise ships that dock in Constanta have transport capacities ranging from several hundreds to 2,500-3,000 persons. Patrichi added that most of the tourists come from the US, Germany and Nordic countries. “Half of the tourists sign up for a trip in the Delta, for a visit at the Murfatlar wine cellars or for a tour of the seaside, while the other half choose to visit the city on their own. On average a foreign tourist spends approximately EUR 100 for a day of docking,” Patrichi added. He believes that, apart from the promotion made for the harbour at tourism fairs, the fact that docking tariffs were reduced by half from EUR 5 to EUR 2.5 per tourist starting in July also contributed to the rise in the number of tourists.
