Newborn dies after ambulance breaks down

A premature newborn died on Saturday after the ambulance that was taking him to a hospital in Targu Jiu broke down, ‘Romania Libera’ informs in its online edition. The baby was prematurely born late Friday night at the Bumbesti-Jiu City Hospital. Because of his poor state of health the doctors decided to send him to a hospital in Targu Jiu. The ambulance that was transporting him there broke down on National Road 67 Bumbesti-Jiu – Targu Jiu. The driver asked for another ambulance to come over and take the baby however the baby died shortly after being moved to the other ambulance. Dr. Damian Ditescu, director of the Bumbesti-Jiu City Hospital, was unable to state whether the baby died in the ambulance or at the hospital in Targu-Jiu.
“What we know for sure is that the newborn had health problems and was in a serious condition. We don’t know for sure where he died but the certain thing is that he was alive when the other ambulance picked him up. The ambulance happened to break down on its way. The national road that connects our city to Targu Jiu is terrible, full of potholes, and will shortly become unusable,” Dr. Ditescu stated.
The baby’s lifeless body was taken to the Gorj County’s Coronary Service where the autopsy will be performed.
