Former General Chitac is in coma

Mihai Chitac, a former army General and Interior Minister after December 1989, has been in a coma since Sunday at the Central Military Hospital in Bucharest. Mihai Chitac has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in connection to the events during the 1989 Revolution in Timisoara. Two weeks ago, he was admitted to Bucharest’s Elias Hospital with splitting headaches, medical sources said. The doctors who examined him found several large brain tumours. The former General is undergoing multiple treatments given his severe cardiac condition, and his prognosis is reserved. Mihai Chitac has requested the court for five times over the past two years to have his jail time interrupted on medical grounds.
