The Dutch Christian-Democrat MP Mirjam Sterk said The Netherlands should expel the ethnic Roma population, following the polemic caused by the decision of French authorities to repatriate to Romania and Bulgaria thousands of members of this minority, Radio Netherlands reports, quoted by Realitatea.net. The idea shocked the Roma minority of the country, which now fears mass deportations similar to those in France. “This (ethnic) group causes much nuisance in many Dutch towns. I can imagine they would rather get rid of them. If these people are not employed, sending them back is a good approach,” Mrs. Sterk pointed out, quoted by the ‘AD’ newspaper. After 2014, Roma people will no longer be required a permit to live and work in The Netherlands. Many Christian-Democrats see this as a reason to deal with the situation before that date.
