Parliament condemns Roma expulsion in public statement

The Parliament passed on Tuesday a public statement on the situation of ethnic Roma Romanian citizens who are deported or repatriated from France and other European states. The document adopted by senators and deputies describes the expulsions as a serious infringement of human rights and freedoms and mentions that the repatriation of ethnic Roma is in clear contradiction with the treaties and directives of the European Union, the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and the European Convention on Human Rights. The Parliament considers that the existence of such situations of crisis imposes an immediate reaction of top Romanian authorities, to find rapid solutions that will prevent an even worse treatment of Romanians abroad and a negative impact in Romania’s relations with other states of the European Union.
