PSD leader, US envoy meet over impeachment plan

The president of the Social-Democrat Party (PSD), Victor Ponta, had a special interview with the US Ambassador, Mark Gitenstein, at the end of last week, in which they addressed the Social-Democrats’ intention to impeach the president Traian Basescu if the latter promulgates the pension law, ‘Puterea’ daily reports. The meeting was scheduled for Friday, and the embassy car was in the Kiseleff yard just minutes before Victor Ponta announced in the press conference that he would propose his partners in the opposition to have president Basescu suspended if the latter should validate the fraud in Parliament by promulgating the pension law. “It is true I met the US ambassador. During the talks I advised him of our intention to initiate procedures to suspend the president Traian Basescu. He made no comment on the topic, as it is not within his prerogatives,” the PSD president stated, in an exclusive interview to ‘Puterea.’
