Igas, new interior minister

PM Boc yesterday nominated Democrat Liberal Senators’ leader Traian Igas for the position of interior minister and submitted the nomination to President Basescu, the government’s press bureau said, according to Agerpres. Basescu accepted the nomination and signed the decree appointing Igas new minister of interior. Igas was set to be sworn in at Cotroceni Palace yesterday evening.

Boc also publicly thanked Blaga for his efforts towards Schengen accession, decentralisation and public administration reform, the government’s press bureau added.

Igas, who reportedly enjoys solid party support for this position, was born in 1968 and has been a PDL member since 1998. He is a law graduate who held various public administration offices in Arad, in 2000-2004. In 2004 he was elected deputy for Arad and was named vice president of the chamber’s committee for public administration. In 2008, he was elected senator and leads PDL’s group in this chamber.
