High Court judge Cristian Jipa submits new retirement request

The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) will debate on Thursday a retirement request submitted by judge Cristian Jipa, of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ). Jipa, who is involved in the case of Senator Catalin Voicu, also submitted a similar request last month, but he subsequently withdrew it. The disciplinary section for judges of the CSM ruled on June 9 to sanction Jipa with 15 pc of his salary, for one month, over his involvement in the Catalin Voicu case. Senator Catalin Voicu, former Supreme Court judge Florin Costiniu, and businessmen Costel Casuneanu and Marius Locic were sent in court under several accounts of corruption, on May 21. At the same time, anti-corruption prosecutors decided to split the case and continue the investigations in the case of Cristian Jipa and PSD Senator Alexandru Mazare.
