The Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) mayors are, again, on the winning side after the latest redistribution of funds to local administrations made by the Government two weeks ago, “Evenimentul Zilei” reports.
The prime-minister Boc allotted the Democrat-Liberals almost a half of the entire amount for infrastructure (bridges, sewerage) and gyms. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) and National Liberal Party (PNL) mayors only got a fifth of the RON 256,661,000 laid out from the hiking of VAT, and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UMDR) mayor’s offices approximately 15 per cent, according to the figures published on Friday in the Official Monitor. The Government resolution which distributes funds for sewerage and gyms was adopted by the Cabinet on September 20, alongside two other pieces of legislation, which stipulated, at the time, among other items, the amounts negotiated with PSD to ensure their silent complicity in the voting of the pension law. PDL is also leading in the redistribution made for the completion of sports facilities, particularly in rural areas. While PNL and PSD mayors were allotted, in general, about RON 50,000 for this type of investment, in the case of PDL and UDMR, the funds allotted to local government is nowhere below RON 120,000 per town or village. Thus, the Democrat-Liberals claim RON 26,478,000 out of the total of RON 53,339,000. UDMR ranks second, with RON 9,159,000. Although boasting fewer mayors than PSD, the Liberals take the lead in this ranking, claiming RON 8,624,000, compared to the RON 6,878,000 allotted to Social-Democrats.
