Geoana wants party head to be elected by all members

Senate Speaker, Social-Democrat Mircea Geoana wrote on his personal blog yesterday that he suggested to his party leadership a few changes to statute so as to have the organisation’s president elected by all party members, Agerpres reports. Geoana said he used the model of the French Socialist Party for his proposals. “The PSD president’s election by all members is an essentially democratic measure, which will prove the party’s strength. All members’ active involvement in the party’s internal organisation will help make them loyal and attract new members. (…) I don’t have a personal stake at this congress (e.n. the PSD congress on October 16). I only want the party to have a statute that would allow it to grow stronger,” Geoana wrote. He said a similar proposal made earlier this year was backed by party leader Victor Ponta and by the National Council President, Adrian Nastase.
