EC dissatisfied with Romania’s online bets draft law

The European Commission is dissatisfied with Romania’s draft legislation on regulating gambling and online bets, expressing serious doubts in what concerns its compatibility with European directives. Thus, Romania cannot adopt the drat law in its current form. Romania notified the European Commission about the draft law on July 2, 2010. The European Commission informed Romania on Tuesday about its detailed objections and is waiting for an answer. Thus, the waiting period has been extended to November 3 and the law cannot be adopted during this time. If Romania ignores the Commission’s objections Brussels could decide to start the infringement procedure.
