Industrial turnover dropped by 8.1 per cent in August

In August the overall industrial turnover dropped by 8.1 per cent in nominal terms compared to the month before, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informs. The INS explains that drop through the 8.4 per cent turnover drop reported by the processing industry. Turnover growth was reported by the energy industry and the durable goods industry. On the other hand, in August this year industrial orders on the internal and external markets grew by 35.1 per cent in nominal terms compared to the same month last year but dropped by 6.9 per cent compared to July. Likewise, in the first eight months of this year Romania imported a quantity of natural gas representing 1.234 million tons of oil equivalent, 24 per cent higher than the one imported in the same period last year. In the first eight months of this year Romania imported a quantity of oil representing 3.937 million tons of oil equivalent, 17 per cent less than it did in the same period last year. During the same period, Romania’s coal production stood at approximately 3.793 million tons of oil equivalent, being 1 per cent smaller than the one reported in the first eight months of 2009. On the other hand, in the first eight months of 2010 the total consumption of electricity stood at 33.49 billion KWh, 4.3 per cent higher compared to the same period last year. (A.C.)
