Trade unionists are determined to picket the parties’ headquarters every Friday, October 8 to October 22, 2010. If they fail to reach an agreement with the decision-makers by then, they threaten they will organize a grand-scale protest in which approximately 80,000 people will take place, sometime between October 25 and October 30. In this protest they will call for the present Government’s resignation and its replacement with one open to negotiations. According to Realitatea.net, the confederation leaders agreed yesterday to stage joint protests henceforth. The head of CNSLR Fratia, Marius Petcu, stated that trade union leaders had set out to initiate talks with all parliamentary groups, representing the governing coalition and the opposition alike, to present their claims, by October 23. On Tuesday over 8,500 education workers protested and marched towards Cotroceni Palace, after chanting against the government in Victoriei Square. The protest came after several similar actions in Bucharest staged by various trade unions against government’s austerity measures, including wage cuts up to 25 per cent.
