The Bucharest National Opera (ONB) starts the 2010-2011 opera season on Saturday, October 9, with the last premiere of the preceding season, “Turandot”, by Giacomo Puccini. Two special guests will appear, under the baton of conductor Tiberiu Soare, in this concert performance, alongside the popular ONB soloists: the Bulgarian-born soprano Mariana Zvetkova (Turandot) and tenor Daniel Magdal (Calaf).
On Sunday morning, it’s time for children to be introduced to the beauty of lyrical theatre, in the opera “Puss in Boots”, in which the ONB artists turn to life Charles Perrault’s famous tale, a performance conducted by the composer-himself, maestro Cornel Trailescu.
The Ballet Company starts the season with a presentation of “Balanchine Night”, the latest national premiere at ONB. On Sunday evening, soloists, alongside the ballet ensemble, will offer the public a feast of dancing, signed by the famous choreographer George Balanchine. The performance will also mark the debut of Vlad Marculescu (“The Fugue. The Grand Fugue”) and Bogdan Canila (“Valse-Fantaisie”). At the same time, for objective reasons, the performance of “Amadeus”, scheduled for October 13, will be replaced with a presentation of “Le Cantatrici villane”, by Valentino Fioravanti, with a cast of young artists, making their lyrical debut within the “Ludovic Spiess” Experimental Opera and Ballet Studio.
