The play “Galileo, the Pope and the Witch”, directed by Riccardo Rombi, will be presented on October 21 by the “Catalyst” theatre company, at the Bucharest National Theatre (TNB), a release informs. The tour of the “Catalyst” theatre company comes as a continuation of a programme of cultural exchanges between Bucharest and Florence, which included a number of representations of Eugene Ionesco’s “The Lesson”, directed by Horatiu Malaiele, by the TNB troupe, in Italy, at the end of March.
Written and directed by Riccardo Rombi, the Italian production “Galileo, the Pope and the Witch” focuses on a moment in the life of Galileo Galilei, based on the famous scholar’s notes and on chronicles of his life. The Italian author pictures an unknown and surprising Galileo, who tries selling, in turn, thermometers, spyglasses, pendulums and glasses to earn a living. The lead, Paolo Santangelo, called upon to embody “the father of modern science”, sketches, in bold new strokes, the image of the famous scientist: a skilful tradesman, as well as a revolutionary of reason, tirelessly fighting superstition and ignorance, on the run from enemies, protests and pending excommunication. The cast includes Paolo Santangelo, Jacopo Gori and Stefania Stefanin.
Tickets are on sale at the TNB Box-office, prices from RON 16 to RON 30.
