The National Company for Motorways and National Roads of Romania (CNADNR) cashed nearly EUR 5 M in the first seven days after the introduction of the electronic vignette, CNADNR officials say, according to Realitatea.net. The new vignette was implemented on October 1, with a two-month delay. The revenue raised by CNADNR in only one week of using the electronic vignette system accounts for approximately 5 per cent of the money raised from the vignette in 2009. According to CNADNR data, the yearly amount collected from the vignette fee would average RON 400 M (about EUR 100 M). On the first day of using the electronic vignette system, October 1, Transport Minister Anca Boagiu estimated 20 per cent bigger revenue from the fee, thanks to the implementation of the new system. ‘The system works, we checked it last night and is a condition imposed by the European Union in order to qualify for more funds for the roads,’ Anca Boagiu said at the time.
