French policemen convicted for raping Romanian prostitute

Three policemen and two security agents working for the French national railways SNCF in Mulhouse (Eastern France) were convicted and given prison sentences from one to two years, on Monday, for raping a Romanian prostitute in the period from September 2005 through to July 2006, AFP reports. The court awarded the 40-year old victim EUR 39,000 in damages. The prostitute’s lawyer maintained the ‘staggered’ victim was terrorised by the prospect of being deported to Romania. The two security guards admitted to having had sexual intercourse with the woman, but one ‘with her consent’. The policemen, on the other hand, denied ever having sex with the prostitute.
