“Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier”, nominated for EFA award

The Romanian proposal to the Oscars 2011, “Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier” (If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle), directed by Florin Serban, is nominated for the European Film Academy – EFA Discovery Award, according to “Gandul”.

The film competes alongside four other productions running for the EFA award: “La Doppia Ora”, directed by Giuseppe Capotondi (Italy), “Die Fremde”, by Feo Aladag (Germany), “Lebanon”, by Samuel Maoz (Israel/ Germany/ France), and “Nothing Personal”, by Urszula Anoniak (Holland/ Ireland). The winner will be designated by the vote of the 2,300 members of the European Film Academy and will be announced in the award gala scheduled to take place in Tallinn, Estonia, on December 4.

This year, the nominalisations were made by a jury comprising Els Vandevorst (Holland), Pierre-Henri Delumeau (France) – both members of the European Film Academy -, Jacob Neiiendam, director of the CPH:PIX film festival in Denmark, Alin Tasciyan, Turkish film critic, and Mariola Wiktor, from the European Film Forum in Poland – all members of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).

“Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier”, Serban’s feature film debut, is the first Romanian film in the past 17 years to have entered the Berlin Festival official competition, in which it won two important distinctions: the grand prize of the jury – the Silver Bear and the “Alfred Bauer” award.
