League I: Dinamo vs. Steaua in great derby this week-end

Dinamo and Steaua, the two great Romanian football rivals, will meet on Sunday in a game counting for leg 11 of League I. The game, set to be played on Dinamo’s stadium, promises to be spectacular even though for the time being the two teams are not at the top of the standings (Steaua is 4th, Dinamo 7th).

The latest news concerning this game concerns Dinamo striker Andrei Cristea. After its decision not to sanction Cristea for the red card he received in Dinamo’s previous game against Otelul, the Professional Football League’s Disciplinary Commission met on Thursday and revised its ruling. Cristea was eventually suspended for one leg and will consequently be unable to play against Steaua. The initial decision to forgive Cristea, a decision that the LPF President Dumitru Dragomir had announced on TV, was harshly criticized by Steaua officials and other football officials that labeled it illegal.

Here are the other games scheduled this leg: Friday – Unirea Urziceni vs. Gaz Metan Medias, Rapid Bucharest vs. Astra Ploiesti, FC Vaslui vs. CFR Cluj; Saturday – FC Targu Mures vs. FC Timisoara, Pandurii Targu Jiu vs. Sportul Studentesc; Sunday – Otelul Galati vs. Gloria Bistrita; Monday – U Cluj vs. Victoria Branesti, FC Brasov vs. U Craiova.
