Yesterday, PSD MEPs Daciana Sarbu and Catalin Ivan spoke in the plenary sitting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg about the fraud PDL committed on the occasion of the pension law vote in Bucharest. The verbal message was completed by some white shirts with the following message inscribed on them ‘Romanian Parliament, dissolved by fraud’ and ’80 does not equal 170’, that the MEPs were wearing. Daciana Sarbu and Catalin Ivan told their European colleagues that the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Roberta Anastase, had tampered with the result of the vote count (declaring that 170 deputies had voted although only 80 were present in the hall), fact that was proved by video recordings and subsequently admitted even by some of PDL’s leaders, for which reason the Parliament is practically stalling. ‘In a EU member state – Romania – democracy is violated with no fear for consequences by the very ruling party’, Sarbu stated. MEP Catalin Ivan addressed the President of the EP, Jerzy Buzek, directly, because he had visited the Romanian Parliament to endorse the PDL government and its austerity plan a few months back, and asked him if, in the context of the pension law proved fraud, he would still be willing to visit Romania and back the PDL government.
