Pensions’ law to re-enter Senate debate in early November

The Senate’s leadership decided on Tuesday that President Traian Basescu’s request to have the Pensions’ law re-examined will be voted during a plenum meeting on November 2 or 3, as stipulated by a debate schedule proposed during a previous meeting. The announcement was made by Senate Quaestor Ioan Chelaru (PSD). Basically, the Head of State’s request to have the law re-examined in an emergency procedure has been rejected. According to Chelaru, the Bureau’s members considered that the President’s demand for rapidity is taken into account and the Statute’s provisions are respected. The Statute points out that a re-examination request has to be filed on the agenda in 30 days’ time at most. On Friday President Traian Basescu sent Speaker of the Senate Mircea Geoana a letter, asking for the pensions’ law to be adopted as fast as possible. Speaker of the Senate Mircea Geoana answered by pointing out that a law of such importance has to benefit from “the Parliament’s full attention.”
